The 68th Annual Grace Cottage Hospital Fair Day will be held on the Townshend Common on Saturday, August 4. This free all-day, family-friendly event runs from 9 am – 5 pm. Rain or shine.
Voted a Top 10 Summer Event last year by the Vermont Chamber of Commerce, Grace Cottage’s Hospital Fair Day has also been called “New England at its finest” by the Boston Globe.
The annual fair features activities to please the whole family: a live all-day auction, an arts show and sale (in the Townshend church), a birthday parade with dancing stork and bagpipes (10 am), bargain booths (white elephant, books, plants, jewelry, and more), all-day bingo, pony rides, face painting, kids games, a bouncy house, musical entertainment, a caricature artist, and a $1000 hole-in-one contest.
Food options include breakfast sandwiches, burgers and dogs, sausage and peppers, fried dough, ice cream, watermelon, corn on the cob, cotton candy, a gourmet lunch buffet, and a fried chicken dinner. There will also be a homemade pie sale.
“Coming to this Fair is like stepping back into the 1950’s,” said an awe-struck fairgoer last year.
The live auction, led by professional auctioneer Kit Martin of the Townshend Auction Gallery, is an annual highlight. Hundreds of items have been collected this year including fine art, antiques, farm and garden equipment, quilts, rugs, and lamps. New, donated items include two generators, two pressure washers, two weed wackers. Preview begins at 9:00, auction begins at 9:30 and runs until all items are gone.
The event is run by well over 100 volunteers. All proceeds benefit Grace Cottage Family Health & Hospital. There is no admission fee and parking is free. Art sale and auction accept checks and credit cards. All other booths are cash only.
