Transgender Day of Visibility

| Featured, News

The Grace Cottage Equity Committee would like to announce its support of the Human Rights Campaign’s “International Transgender Day of Visibility,” celebrated each year on March 31.

This event celebrates the resilience and joy of transgender and non-binary individuals worldwide. It recognizes the importance of hearing about their experiences, as individuals and as a group. And it remembers those transgender and non-binary individuals who have been victims of prejudice and violence, including Fern Feather of Morristown, VT, who was murdered in 2022. These violent acts serve as stark reminders of the systemic challenges and discrimination faced by transgender and non-binary individuals.

There are an estimated 1.6 million transgender, non-binary, and gender-expansive individuals aged 13 and above in the United States. While there has been great progress in Vermont, there is still much work to be done. It’s crucial that healthcare practitioners and organizations like ours work to ensure the inclusion and to support the well-being of these individuals.

Grace Cottage does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, ancestry, place of birth, age, or physical or mental condition. Our Equity Committee has been proactive in establishing policies and practices at Grace Cottage that honor and support both transgender patients and employees.
